Nördlich von Perth besuchen wir den Nambung National Park. Das sagt einem erst mal nicht allzu viel, aber auf einem kleinen Teil des Parks gibt es etwas Besonderes zu sehen: die Pinnacles Wüste. Auf einer 4-Kilometer langen Rundfahrt kann man die tausenden bis zu vier Meter hohen Kalksteinsäulen besichtigen. Jede der gelblichen Säulen ist in ihrer Form einzigartig. Die zahlreichen Parkmöglichkeiten entlang der Strecke erlauben auch ein Erkunden der Gegend zu Fuss. Der Park liegt «nur» ungefähr 200 Kilometer nördlich von Perth, so sind wir hier zwar ganz und gar nicht alleine unterwegs – umso spannender ist es dann aber den anderen Leuten bei ihren Fotoshootings mit den Pinnacles zuzusehen.
North of Perth, we visit Nambung National Park. That might not mean much at first, but there’s something special to see in a small part of the park: the Pinnacles Desert. On a 4-kilometre circular drive, you can see thousands of limestone pillars, some up to four metres high. Each of the yellowish pillars is unique in shape. The numerous car parks along the route also allow you to explore the area on foot. The park is ‘only’ about 200 kilometres north of Perth, so we’re by no means alone here – but that makes it all the more entertaining to watch the other visitors having their photo shoots with the Pinnacles.
Viele Leute machen kurz vor Port Gregory Halt um Fotos zu machen. Aber wie so oft sieht man die eigentliche Farbenpracht erst wieder aus der Luft: Dank der Drohne können wir das zart-pinke Leuchten der Hutt Lagune einfangen.
Lots of people stop just before Port Gregory to take photos. But, as is so often the case, you only really see the true splendour of the colours from the air: thanks to the drone, we’re able to capture the delicate pink glow of the Hutt Lagoon.
Einen Übernachtungsplatz finden wir im Sandy Cape Recreation Park. Die angrenzenden Dünen werden hier auch zum wilden Offroad-Fahren genutzt, so dröhnen die Motoren den ganzen Nachmittag bis in die Abendstunden hinein. Um 21 Uhr sind dann aber zu unserem erneuten Erstaunen (wir sind wohl von den lauten Partys bis in die Morgenstunden unserer Südamerikareise noch etwas geprägt) wieder alle Australier in ihren Betten und auf dem Campingplatz ist es mucksmäuschenstill.
We find a place to spend the night at Sandy Cape Recreation Park. The neighbouring dunes are also used for wild off-road driving here, so the engines roar all afternoon and well into the evening. By 9 pm, however, to our surprise once again (we’re probably still a bit scarred by the noisy parties that went on until the early hours during our trip to South America), all the Australians are back in bed and the campsite is as quiet as a mouse.
