…dann entsteht ein Canyon. So hat sich der Colorado River über weite Strecken eine tiefe Schlucht geschaffen. Am Horseshoe Bend zieht der Fluss einen Hufeisenförmigen Bogen – ein beliebtes Sujet für Fotografen.
…then a canyon is formed. This is how the Colorado River has created a deep gorge over long stretches. At Horseshoe Bend, the river draws a horseshoe-shaped loop – a popular subject for photographers.
Ein wenig später kommen wir zu der wohl berühmtesten grossen Schlucht: Dem Grand Canyon. Die Weite und Tiefe sind mit blossem Auge schon kaum zu fassen, so werden die Fotos dem auch so gar nicht gerecht. Wir besuchen den Grand Canyon vom Norden her. Es ist die von Touristen weniger aufgesuchte Seite der Schlucht.
A little later we arrive at the probably most famous large canyon: The Grand Canyon. The width and depth are already hard to grasp with the naked eye, so the photos do not do it justice at all. We visit the Grand Canyon from the north. It is the side of the canyon less visited by tourists.
Der Bryce Canyon bietet die grösste Anzahl der sogenannten Hoodoos. Das sind diese irregulär geformten Steintürme. Waren wir am Grand Canyon fast alleine, sind die Parkplätze der einzelnen Aussichtspunkte dieses National Parks schon morgens komplett voll.
Bryce Canyon offers the largest number of the so-called hoodoos. These are these irregularly shaped stone towers. While we were almost alone at the Grand Canyon, the parking lots of the individual viewpoints of this National Park were already completely full in the morning.
